How did you end up at The Training Room?
- I ended up in the training room after a referral from Dr. Franks at Rothman. I had gone 8 weeks with no treatment for a medial collateral ligament injury.
Understanding the Basic Runner’s Pose
In my last article, I talked about how running form is so important to runners but didn’t delve into what that form consists of. Let’s take a deeper look at what runners need to work on to become more efficient and prevent injuries.
During a run, every single person will do three things:
- They will enter a stance that is universal in every runner’s stride. You, me, and Galen Rupp all do this.
Running Is a Skilled Sport – and It Should Be Treated Like One
Yes, I’m aware of how silly that sounds. And I’m especially aware of that because I transitioned into a runner 13 years ago, when it became apparent that I no longer had the hand-eye coordination and athleticism to keep up with my peers. But as research has been conducted and performance has been analyzed, it has become very apparent that technique and skill are both critically important to success in running.
If you don’t believe me, head out to a road race this weekend and compare the runners in the top 10 percent of the race to the runners in the slower portions of the race.
