How to Stay Motivated
To get started, I wanted to share some tips and tricks on staying motivated as you get in the habit of attending classes…
And please note- we have all been there, you know you should go to the gym yet for some reason, you can’t do it. Consistency and motivation are some of the top reasons that training routines fail.
First, you should plan and organize. You should incorporate your workout into your day. Whether that is you putting it on your calendar, packing your clothes in a bag the night before and bringing them to work, or setting an alarm that will tell you it’s time to get up and go, it will be a reminder and something to hold you accountable to your schedule. It should also help eliminate common distractions that remove you from your routine.
Another effective strategy is finding a friend you can meet up with to workout. Then, you can shift your mindset to “I am meeting my friend” which is less intimidating than “I have to go workout”. That adjusted mindset will help keep you more consistent over time. Having a friend to workout with also will help you push yourself once you get to the gym and possibly create a friendly sense of competition. If you are working hard and what you are doing is challenging, you will build muscle and get in better shape faster.
Finally, setting small, specific goals can make a huge impact on how easy you find it to reach that goal. For example, saying “I want to be able to run 2 miles without having to walk” instead of “I want to run more”. The first is specific, measurable, and realistic. The second is vague and easy to give up on when you haven’t set a specific goal. Now, as you are training, you will always have that goal to help you remember and continue to work towards. The more specific and measurable your goals are, the more you will know how close you are getting to them which will help you keep going. And, once you tackle that one, you can find something new you want to be great at!!
